FA cup games on for tonight

A single Championship game on for tonight as well as two FA cup games! Although the team in the FA cup are unknown they should be good enough for the average football punter to bet on. Seems like a lot of the statistic sites give no information about these 4 teams, but I was able to find just enough to guide you through the games.

We will leave Newcastle v West Bromwich for last, since there’s a lot we can discuss there. These are the three games we would be able to watch today:

Chelmsford City v Crawley Town 18/01/2010 19:45 GMT
Worcester City v Carshalton Athletic 18/01/2010 19:45 GMT
Newcastle v West Bromwich 18/01/2010 19:45 GMT

Let’s look at the first game on the list which is Chelmsford City v Crawley Town. Chelmsford City currently are playing in Blue Square South League and are third with 13 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses. They seem to be doing all right at home, holding a record of 5 wins 4 draws and 2 losses. Crawley Town are in the league higher called Blue Square Premier and are currently taking the 10th spot, with an away record of 4 wins 3 draws and 7 losses.

Although Chelmsford are a semi-pro team, they have the chance this year to finish in the top 2 teams and join the professionals next year.My prediction for this game would be a home victory for Chelmsford. Although they are a team in a lower division, seems like their shape is not that far away from the teams in Blue Square Premier.

The second game in the FA Cup is between Worcester City v Carshalton Athletic. Worcester are in the same league as Chelmsford, but their performance is quite disappointing this year. Their home record is 3 wins 4 draws and 4 losses. They are close to the red zone, with a game more and it’s going to be tough for this team to compete for the trophy of the FA cup as well as its own league.

Carshalton Athletic is a team in the lower half of the Ryman League. They seem in the same situation as Worcester, but in a lower division. My prediction would be that neither team would try too hard, since for both of them staying in their current league is a main priority. I would bet on a draw game here.

Now finally for the more interesting game: Newcastle v West Bromwich. Newcastle making their way to the Premiership this year, currently taking the 1st spot with 51 points and outstanding home record of 9 wins, 3 draws and 0 losses. West Bromwich are currently 3rd, and if they would want to directly qualify for Premiership without having to play play-offs, they need to reach the 2nd spot. They are 4pts away from the 2nd team and 2 games short so they need at least a win and a tie to get up there.

The problem is that Newcastle seems to get theirs when playing at home. Both team have good amount of games in the Premier League, and since 2002 West Bromwich has won 0 games when visiting. I will stick with the statistics and go with the perfect Newcastle record and pick a home win for them.
