English Premier League Weekend Round

Another day of Barclays Premier League, after the games yesterday. I found them actually quite boring last night, not a lot of goals and they didn’t end exactly as I was anticipating. Liverpool showed us yet again that they haven’t picked up the right path and they still keep on loosing points versus mediocre teams.

I would keep them off my betting slip for sure, unless you are looking for the surprise and go against them. Otherwise I feel like it’s waste of time and money to bet on them.

Enough for the games of last night, we have few games today, that I will discuss as well as what’s expected to be an epic Semi-Final for the Carling Cup between Manchester United and Manchester City.

But let’s focus first on the games in the English Premier League:

Chelsea v Birmingham 27/01/2010 19:45 GMT
Aston Villa v Arsenal 27/01/2010 19:45 GMT
Everton v Sunderland 27/01/2010 20:00 GMT
Blackburn v Wigan 27/01/2010 20:00 GMT

Chelsea v Birmingham: The top two teams with the best home records this year are about to meet each other. Although Chelsea is missing key players in the African Cup they proved us wrong beating Sunderland at home with 7:2. The first game this year between these two teams wasn’t long ago and it ended 0:0 proving that Birmingham can be an incredible host.

Chelsea has two games less from the first Man United, and a victory today will bring them back to the top spot, with a game less as well. My predictions for this game would be Under 2.5 Goals since both teams have great defenses and I expect a battle in the middle of the field most of the match. As for winning, I do believe Chelsea will win this one.

Aston Villa v Arsenal: This would probably be the game of the night for the EPL, since two equal teams meet. As a host Arsenal dominated last game and won with 3:0. However the team from Birmingham doesn’t have a win in the past 3 EPL rounds and really needs the points to stay in the top spots.

A lot of draw games when Villa is hosting. Out of 10 home games against Arsenal, 5 has ended draw, and 5 victories for Arsenal. This would mean that Villa has no victory in their home stadium in over 10 years now. I would go with the stats here when it comes to betting.

Also Arsenal gave a rest to some major players against Stoke for the FA Cup and the result was a loss with 3:1. However this would give them a chance to send out a stronger team tonight. My prediction would be an away victory for Arsenal.

Everton v Sunderland: Quite a history between the two teams. Sunderland doesn’t have an away victory over Everton in the past 20 games, which speaks for itself. They do have 2 draw games in the last 8 visits, so this might give them a hope for a third one.

Everton has picked up the pace and seems like they are in a wonderful shape. They have 0 losses in the last 7 games home and away against major teams. 2:0 against Manchester City, 2:2 versus Arsenal, 3:3 versus Chelsea, 2:2 versus Tottenham, 1:1 versus Birmingham.

My prediction would be a home victory for Everton, although the risk takers can go for the draw and bet on it.

Blackburn v Wigan: Two draws, Two wins for Wigan and Six victories for Blackburn. This games seems pretty straight forward. Wigan has the worst away goal ratio, partially because of the two losses against Man United with 0:5 and Tottenham 1:9. I do not expect anything different this game, although Blackburn are just few spots ahead of Wigan, seems logical to bet on a home victory.
