One of the most anticipated games in Italy and all over Europe for Saturday, April 2nd 2011, between rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Here are the current position both teams come from before this game.

Currently AC Milan are first in Serie A with 62 points in 30 games, a home record of W9 D4 L2, scoring 31 goals and conceding 11 in those games. The only game Milan lost at home was against Roma, with 0:1, on December 18th 2010. Since then the team has recorded 3 victories and 3 draws, most recent game at home against Bari, has been a bit disappointing ending 1:1. Earlier this season Milan was able to beat Inter with 1:0, hoping for the same on Saturday.

Inter are coming in this game as second, after the season started rough under the command of Rafael Benitez. The team has 60 points in 30 games, an away record of W7 D3 L5, scoring 18 goals and conceding 15 in those games. Inter is unbeaten in the last 3 away games, recording 2 victories and a draw. The team’s new manager Leonardo, was last year’s Milan manager and will be quite happy with a victory over his old team. Inter managed to qualify for Champions League quarter finals and will be playing in 3 days against Schalke at home.

Perhaps one of the biggest factors in this derby is the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The striker is suspended because of a red card that he picked up few rounds before this game and although his suspension was reduced he will still miss this game.

There have been a total of 153 derbies between both teams Inter leading with 56 wins to 48 for Milan and 49 draws. This definitely gives Inter the edge, especially with Ibra missing. After all he is Milan’s top scorer this season with 15 goals and he is in a wonderful shape. Inter and Milan haven’t shared points in the past 12 derbies, where Inter has won 7 times, while Milan 5.

I would personally back Inter in this game, because of their better performance recently, managing to qualify themselves through the next round of Champions League and catching up in Serie A. If they win this derby they will climb up on the first spot with 1 point ahead of Milan. The bookmakers also slightly favor Inter, and this is my betting choice.
