After a disappointing performance in the first game, Argentina has to get the victory in their second game of the tournament. Colombia is already the leader in Group A, and a draw or better here will certainly qualify them for the quarter-finals.
Argentina
Turns out, the mixed performance that I discussed in the previous preview that can be found here, is not a trick that Argentina was trying to pull. The team indeed has a lot of problems when it comes to finishing off their attacks with a goal. In the first match from this tournament after a mistake from Banega, the ball slipped into the net, and the host was trailing behind with 0:1. Only the successful substitute of Sergio Agüero who came some 25 minutes before the game ends, “saved” the day. A brilliant goal from the young striker, helped Argentina get at least the point in the game. Lionel Messi, did well at least in my opinion, gave some very fancy passes, which however weren’t converted into goals.
Colombia
Colombia started the tournament in the best possible way, with a victory over Costa Rica, and topped Group A, despite the presence of Argentina there. In the victory over Costa Rica, Colombia showed good play, although the team was in a defending position in the first minutes of the game. After 27 minutes of play, Costa Rica’s squad was reduced to 10man after a straight red card for a dangerous tackle, and Colombia’s job became even easier. The game won with the minimal, 1:0 which was enough, and made things complicated for Costa Rica.
Prediction
This is a tricky one. I can and I will give you my suggestion, but you have to answer this for yourself; “Do you believe Argentina, can get the top spot in the group? Do you believe they might not even qualify?. If you are suspecting Lionel Messi and company can’t get the top spot, which means a draw or worse here the odds are quite rewarding. The draw is priced at 4.20 while the victory for Colombia sits at 7.50 (Odds by Bet365.com).
My suggestion however, is to give Argentina another chance. I believe the team will be highly motivated, as another disappointment will be unacceptable. This however, will put an extra pressure on this game. Prediction, a victory for Argentina.
