The favorite of Group B, that got 9 points and won all of their three games is meeting Mexico, that qualified thanks to the goal difference.
Argentina started well, but with not a lot of goals against Nigeria winning with just 1:0. A lot of people were expecting Lionel Messi, to score but that didn’t happen.
The second game Diego Maradonna and his boys, totally outplayed South Korea and won 4:1. Again many were expecting Messi to score but he couldn’t. He shined during the game, even hit the post, but no goals.
Third game when everyone expected Messi to be left on the bench, Maradonna said he couldn’t let him stay on the bench because Messi himself didn’t want to. The game went superb and Argentina won with 0:2, and a goal difference of 7:1.
A little bit different went things for Mexico. In the opening game, they were down by a goal against South Africa, but were able to equalize and at the end the post saved them when a shot from South African player hit it.
With a point , they met the 1998 WC champion France and they totally outplayed them with 2:0. This sent them to the first spot with Uruguay, but they lost the game with 0:1, which however was enough to qualify them.
Now the biggest challenge comes very early in the round of 16
What to expect in this game?
Without trying to under-estimate the team of Mexico, I wanna say that Argentina with this squad can be unstoppable if they reach their potential. In fact if they play as they should I don’t think they would have any troubles reaching the final.
However we saw plenty of times in this World Cup that your stars mean nothing, and even teams with no names, can workout a great defensive strategy and win on counter attacks.
The Betting Verdict?
Argentina – win @ 1.66 (Bet365.com): I see a lot of people putting money on Mexico, due to the fact that the win had odds of 1.50 and now they are 1.66 and it looks fishy. I personally can’t see how Argentina will loose this game since for me this is one sided game, but only time will show.
