Barcelona achieved a comfortable lead on Bernabeu, with 2:0, and now the easier part comes. A return match on Camp Nou, where Real Madrid would need 3 goals
Barcelona came out on Bernabeu a week ago, with a different strategy, after losing the Copa del Rey final, in extra time. It looked like, at least from that game, that Real Madrid have gotten a way to beat their biggest rival and everyone was anticipating this first semi-final from Champions League. The match was on its way to end up a 0:0 draw when Pepe picked up a red card, after which brilliant Lionel Messi scored 2 goals, forming the end result of 2:0. On Tuesday Barcelona would get a chance to play in front of home crowd, something they didn’t have chance to do in the previous 3 games against Real. Barcelona lost their most recent away game in Primera Division with 2:1, to Real Sociedad.
Real Madrid has slim chances to advance to the final of Champions League. The team has lost their home game in Primera Division to Real Zaragoza with 2:3 on Saturday. Jose Mourinho and his team would need to score 3 goals on Camp Nou, and most likely keep their net clean, if they would like eliminate Barcelona. The last time Real Madrid has been able to score 3 goals at Barcelona was back in 1959/60 European Champion Clubs’ Cup semi-final. Two goals here will be enough for extra time, something Real have achieved back in 2002 winning on Camp Nou with 2:0, after a 1:1 in the first game.
As this game is with a significant importance to both teams, I am guessing these losses in Primera Division were no accidents. Both teams have saved strength and focus for the upcoming return match which will decide who goes on the final.
The odds for Real Madrid to make it past this match to the final are 17.00.
Which team will win this game, is hard to say, as Barcelona will be happy with all sorts of outcome, even a minimal loss of 0:1. However using logic we can conclude that both teams will be looking for goals here. Barcelona to just kill the suspense in the game, and Real to make up for the 2 goals passive.
As Jose Mourinho is not a manager that would just give up, my prediction for this match would be Over 2.5 Goals, expecting Real to go for those 3 goals. But last match here ended 5:0, for Barcelona, can that happen again?
