Champions League Round

Manchester City have their second ever outing in the Champions League on Tuesday night when they travel to Germany to take on Bayern Munich. It will be a tricky test for Roberto Mancini’s side as Munich have started the season in brilliant form.

Unibet makes Bayern Munich the favourites in the match odds at 18/19 while a Man City win is 3/1 and a draw offered at 27/11.

Man City experienced how tough the Champions League can be with their opening game against Napoli. The Italian side caused all kinds of problems at the Etihad Stadium and even took the lead thanks to a well worked Edison Cavani goal. City drew level through a Kolarov free-kick just minutes later but it still meant two dropped home points which could prove crucial at the end of the group stages.

City got their Premier League campaign back on track on Saturday after their draw with Fulham a week before. They hosted Everton at home and ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Mario Balotelli and James Milner. The win put City back as joint leaders of the Premier League after neighbours United could only draw at Stoke City.

Roberto Mancini has altered his tactics this season and no longer are City a conservative, defensive side. However, for the trip to Munich on Tuesday night, don’t expect him to tell his side to go all out on the attack because he would probably be happy to play for a point against the Germans.

This Bayern Munich team is being touted as one of the best in many years. They have started their season in outstanding form and have not lost a game in any competition since their opening day defeat to Borussia M’Gladbach in the league. They currently sit top of the Bundesliga, two points ahead of Werder Bremen. Munich’s most recent domestic match was a great performance in a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

In their opening Champions League encounter they totally outplayed Villarreal away and got a 2-0 victory. Young German attacker Nils Peterson has been very impressive so far for the side during this campaign while striker Mario Gomez has scored eight goals in his last six games in the league and in Europe. City certainly has their work cut out for them if they want to take anything from this game. Munich are riding high on confidence after their run of results and performances and playing at home in front of a passionate Allianz Arena should get the win here.

City may be the second highest scorers in the Premier League at the moment but even their strike force should have a hard time against Bayern. Amazingly, the German club have not conceded a goal in nine games in all competitions, dating back to the start of August.
