Birmingham

Birmingham won the Carling Cup final against Arsenal last season and got a quote to participate in Europa League. The team started from the play-off round where they met the Portuguese Nacional. After a 0:0 in the first match, Birmingham managed to win the second with 3:0 and advanced to the group stage. Sadly however, Birmingham was relegated from Premier League last season and is currently playing in the Championship, (Tier 2) of the English football. So far their record if W3 D1 L2 and is still very early to be determined if they will be able to return to the elite. Birmingham has not yet conceded a goal in this edition of Europa League.

Braga

Braga did very well last season, finishing second in Europa League, losing the final to FC Porto with the minimal 0:1. The team started the campaign with 2 draw games in the play-off stage against Young Boys, but with an away goal advantage they were able to qualify for the group stage. Braga’s record against English teams away from home seem devastating, W0 D2 L4, scoring 3 goals in 6 games and conceding 17. In Liga Zon Sagres, Braga is doing well so far, achieving 3 victories and a draw a total of 10 points in 4 matches.

Prediction

Both team have not met before, but Birmingham already beat one Portuguese team, at home, Nacional with 3:0. Braga has yet to record a victory in England and has yet to achieve a victory in Europa League this season.

Despite that, the odds look very tied: 2.60 for a home victory, 2.70 for an away victory. Value bet here would most likely be the draw priced at 3.40 considering the fact that Braga has so far managed to record 2 draws out of 2 games. (Paddy Power)

My prediction, Birmingham to be able to crack Braga’s defense and win this match.
