After Manchester United and Chelsea won their games on Saturday, it’s time for Arsenal to try to keep up with them. Anything but a victory will be failure.
Bolton is currently 8th in the table, with 43 points out of 32 games, a home record of W9 D5 L2, scoring 31 goals and conceding 19 in those games. The team reached the semi-finals of FA Cup, where they lost to Stoke City on Wembley with 0:5. In Premier league however Bolton won the last 4 home games, scoring 9 goals and conceding only 2. The team was able to keep a clean sheet in 3 of those victories. Last home loss for the team was against London team Chelsea, on January 24th 2011 with 0:4.
Arsenal are now 3rd in the table with 64 points in 33 games, an away record of W8 D6 L2, scoring 35 goals and conceding 21. The team has gathered 30 points away from home this season and it’s so far the best visitor. However in the last 4 away matches, Arsenal has recorded 3 draws and a victory. Against Tottenham and Newcastle, the team let leads with 2 and 4 goals slip away just like that.
Wenger is still being positive, saying that if his team wins the remaining 5 rounds in Premier league they can still win the title. Well this is step one.
Arsenal has visited Bolton 11 times for Premier league since 1995. They have recorded here 5 victories 2 draws and 4 losses. Arsenal however has won the last 3 games here:
17/01/2010 Bolton vs. Arsenal 0:2
20/09/2008 Bolton vs. Arsenal 1:3
29/03/2008 Bolton vs. Arsenal 2:3
25/11/2006 Bolton vs. Arsenal 3:1
03/12/2005 Bolton vs. Arsenal 2:0
15/01/2005 Bolton vs. Arsenal 1:0
I am willing to back Arsenal in this game. It’s not because of the recent games, because Arsenal has disappointed in those, but mostly because the position they are in. Anything but a victory on Reebok Stadium would mean a difference between them and United, of at least 8 to 9 points.
In that case, even if the Red Devils lose in the direct games against the Gunners and Chelsea, Arsenal still won’t be able to catch up. So it all comes down to this game, at least for this round. My prediction Arsenal to win.
