Before the tournament started, the two teams appointed for favorites were Argentina and Brazil. However, Argentina lost their quarter-final against Uruguay, 4:5 after penalties. Brazil followed the same fate, losing to Paraguay with 0:2 after penalties. What was really disturbing, is that the Brazilian team did not score any of the 4 penalties taken, 3 of which did not even find the target. Here’s a video if you did not watch:

Bets placed on Peru and Venezuela have now a realistic chance to bring back a great profit, as both teams are a game away from the final. Peru and Venezuela were also both teams that made it to the semi-finals without penalties, where Venezuela even won in regular time, while Peru won in the extra time.

According to the odds Uruguay has the highest chance of winning the tournament. Uruguay is also the team that has won the most Copa America titles (14), the same amount as Argentina (14 as well). Paraguay is the second team in line considered to have great chances of winning the trophy. Venezuela and Peru are again priced as underdogs. However judging by their performance, I consider these odds an opportunity for making good money.
Another valuable bet at this point might be the Draw in any of the remaining games, as 11 out of the 22 games so far have ended draw, including 3 of the 4 quarter-finals.
Can Uruguay get the 15th title, and top the list? Can Paraguay find its way to the final and win it, after eliminating Brazil? Can Peru and Venezuela, continue to surprise us? The answers to all of these questions will start revealing with the first game on July 20th at 1:45 UK time, followed by the second semi-final on July 21st at 1:45 UK time, and the final on July 24th 2011 at 20:00 UK time.
