After the loss from Manchester City on Saturday, Chelsea received a bit of a relieve after most of the major clubs in England lost their games as well. Now Chelsea can focus on their game against Marseille, hoping to get another 3 points here.

Marseille, who where considered the favorite for the 2nd spot in this group, surprisingly lost at home against Spartak Moscow with 0:1, and still has no points.

Both teams have met 10 years ago, where each won at home with 1:0. In season 2008/9 Chelsea met another French team at home, Bordeaux and won with 4:0.

Chelsea were unbeaten at home for 21 games in Champions League, 15 of which were victories, before Jose Mourinho and Inter came on Stamford Bride and took the victory with 1:0.

Deschamps, who’s currently coaching Marseille, coached Monaco to the 2003/04 Champions League to the final, beating Chelsea on the semi-final with 3:1 at home and a 2:2 draw away.

Ancelotti is pretty sure that his men will do well. Here’s what he had to say: “I don’t ask for my players to have a reaction. I want them to pay attention and to play football because they need the points from this game. I don’t need to see a reaction because they will do a very good game anyway. It is important that we finish top of the group.

“Marseille are a good team. We know all about their individual skills, it is difficult to say who is their most dangerous player, but usually it is the strikers. My job is to explain everything to my players and make sure they have a good approach to the game and know all about their opponents. We have to know their skills and stay focused on our game and if we do that, we will win.”

Didier Drogba, has a 2 games suspension after being sent off last year against Inter. Ancelotti would have to depend on Anelka and Malouda the all french forward.

Lampard will be still out for this game, but this shouldn’t be a problem for the team since they played enough games without him anyways.

The Betting Verdict?

Chelsea to win @ 1.42 (Register at Betfair.com – get a 25£ Bonus): The odds started growing from 1.35 to now 1.42 already, and will probably reach 1.48 by tomorrow. Seems like the loss against Manchester City has affected many people to think that Chelsea is not capable of winning this one. The team will also have a home game this weekend against Arsenal, so their schedule is pretty tight. Anyways I believe even with minimal efforts Chelsea has what it takes to defeat Marseille.
