Champions League Round

Have you seen any of the episodes of Twilight zone?

Where everything is reversed and going backwards?

Perhaps I needed something similar for my Champions League predictions and analysis.

Although everything that I wrote seemed perfectly logical, a lot of illogical things happens on the football field during the games.

I never really expected both Chelsea and Sevilla to be knocked out in the first elimination round. I was even thinking that Chelsea might get to a final this year… but I guess I was wrong.

As for Sevilla, a goalie mistake was enough for CSKA to score a 2nd goal and advance to the next stage.

But yesterday is all in the past now, so let’s focus on what’s coming tonight:

Bordeaux v Olympiakos 17/03/2010 19:45 GMT
Barcelona v VfB Stuttgart 17/03/2010 19:45 GMT

Bordeaux v Olympiakos: Bordeaux are currently struggling in France League 1. The team hasn’t won anything since that last 0:1 in Greece and are hoping for a victory tonight. They have the chance to advance to the next stage of Champions League, something they haven’t done since 1988.

Despite the bad performance in France, the team won 7 straight games in Champion’s League. They topped the group with teams like Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Olympiakos are also eager to win this game. Having a late goal called off in the first leg, can sure stimulate them enough. This weekend they played against Pas Giannina and after two goals and two own goals the game ended 2:2. Clearly they were focused on nothing else but the game on Wednesday.

My predictions for this game would be a home win for Bordeaux @ 1.57. Bet now at Betfair.

Barcelona v VfB Stuttgart: After a lot of expectations the first game, it ended somewhat as expected; a draw 1:1. However tonight is the night of truth where both teams would have to battle for advance in the next round.

After two Spanish teams being knocked out and Barcelona not in the shape from last year, one can wonder what’s gonna happen tonight. Can the ambitious team from Stuttgart bring yet another surprise in the CL?

Although that’s not expected, or at least by the majority and the bookmakers, you never know. The odds for a home win are horribly low, so we have to find something more satisfying.

Under/Over might a good choice. If you take into account that this is Barcelona you might go with Over 2.5 Goals and odds of 1.56. However looking at the last game that ended 1:1 one might go with Under 2.5 Goals and odds of 2.74. Bet now at Betfair.

As yesterday, “Both Teams To Score” seems a logical option, hopefully the game won’t be as cluttered as yesterday with very few opportunities for a goal. Odds at 2.1 Bet now at Betfair.

My predictions for this game would be Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.74
