Manchester City started well this year’s Europa League campaign against RedBull Salzburg winning away with 2:0, while Juventus, couldn’t hold the 3:2 lead against Lech Poznan and after all the game ended 3:3.
Here’s a little info from UEFA about the previous meetings of these two clubs:
“The clubs met in the first round of the 1976/77 UEFA Cup, with Tony Book’s City winning 1-0 at their old Maine Road stadium, but losing 2-0 in Turin. Giovanni Trapattoni’s side beat Manchester United FC in the next round and went on to win the competition, overcoming Athletic Club on away goals in the final.”
However this year while City was able to beat Liverpool and Chelsea and tie Tottenham, Juventus has had mixed games, losing at home to Bari and Palermo, but beating Cagliari and beating Udinese away.
They sure don’t want to remember last’s year visit in England where they met Fulham, with a comfortable lead of 3:1 from the first game in Turin. However Cottages were able to win their home game with 4:1 and therefore advance to the next stage.
Personally I think today’s challenge is even bigger, since City bought a lot of players and is eager for trophies.
Here are few interesting facts about both teams:
* City have never lost at home in 23 matches in European competition (excl. qualifiers) against non-English sides, and have won their last four.
* Roberto Mancini’s men have kept seven clean sheets in their 10 matches in all competitions this season.
* Juventus have won none of their last nine matches in England in European competition, losing eight, including the 4-1 defeat at Fulham last season.
* Juve won their two Europa League qualifiers away from home, though aside from that have lost seven of their last nine competitive matches on the road in all competitions.
The Betting Verdict?
Manchester City to win @ 1.67 (The highest odds on the net! Register at Betfair.com – 25£ bonus): Considering the home advantage and the good shape City are in, it’s only logical to be looking for the home win here. The odds seem great and the probabilities too.
