In order to be successful in football betting and sports betting in general, one has to be able to identify trends and follow them.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with what trend is, here’s the most common definition in the dictionary: “tendency: a general direction in which something tends to move”.
“To a trader who uses technical analysis, the trend in price of a financial security is, intuitively, the general direction of its movement. ..”. I have mentioned a lot of times that football betting and stock traders have a lot in common, and to be a good gambler you have to become a trader.
So how do you find the trend, and why in the world would you wanna follow it? Brokers have a phrase “The Trend is Your Friend“, meaning that if you stick with the trend you will most likely get your bets correct. More correct bets equals more winnings, which leads to higher profits. Notice that I said “most likely” which means that trends are not always correct but they tend to be more correct than wrong in the long term.
Bet365‘s statistics, that are always available to you on any game, let you identify the trend much easier, than anywhere else.
So how do you identify a trend? Simple, use statistical analysis! You can plot the points, plug the numbers and see which way the games are going in general. For example, a mistake that I recently made was that I went for a Under 2.5 Goals bet in Champions League , when the trend was clearly pointing the other way for Over 2.5 Goals. (To see that, I was using bet365′s chart tools available to anyone)
Another trend that I have noticed for Champions League (season 2010-2011) this year was the home factor, meaning teams playing at home usually win their games. Although this is not exact science and there are always games that will prove me wrong, remember that we are looking for what “usually” happens.
Remember that the longer period of time you use for identifying the trend, the larger the overall picture is. Trends using a greater period of time are more accurate, but they have a delay, when it comes to changes. You will not be able to see if a new trend is forming until a certain amount of time passes by. This is why some people use a very short amount of time to identify trends. These are great for spotting the change, however you can hardly see the big picture here.
There is no right or wrong way here, it’s all personal preference. It depends solely on you! If you feel comfortable with longer trends and they help you see the bigger picture, making it easier to predict your games go ahead with them. If you are fan of the short amount of times and you are good at getting your games correct using those, go with them. The key factor here is to see what works for you, to boost your overall winnings and profit.
