English Premier League Weekend Round

Chelsea got their first home loss today, against Manchester City.

Quite shocking at least for me, especially with the score of 2:4.

Four goals on your own stadium are quite a lot especially when you are the leader in the table, and you haven’t lost a game at home since the beginning of the season.

Burnley lost at home to the last in the table Portsmouth, which was also unexpected.

Anyways the games for today are:

Tottenham v Everton 28/02/2010 13:00 GMT
Liverpool v Blackburn 28/02/2010 15:00 GMT
Sunderland v Fulham 28/02/2010 15:00 GMT

Tottenham v Everton : If there’s a team that deserves applause recently that’s the team of Everton. They were able to beat the leader Chelsea, and Manchester United, on home turf, as well as get a point from Arsenal away with the score of 2:2. Although they lost against Liverpool with 1:0 away, it was a very close game.

Tottenham has a great team this year, although they are showing instability in certain games, like that loss against Wolverhampton and that last minute draw against Birmingham.Clearly the team got potential, and would want to be on the 4th spot this year.

A win will tie them with Man City by points, but with a game more. Home record of 8 wins 2 draws and 3 losses compared to the Everton’s away record of 3 wins 3 draws and 6 losses, shows advantage for Tottenham.

The question here is how bad does Tottenham wants to play in the Champions League? My answer is bad enough, so my prediction would be a home victory for Tottenham, odds of 2.14 @ Betfair.

Liverpool v Blackburn: Horrible season for Liverpool, after having a blast in 2008-2009, Benitez’s team was expected to go for the title this year. Clearly this isn’t happening and their goal as of now is the 4th spot. Home record of 9 wins 2 draws and 2 losses and 2 victories at home, against Blackburn in a row with 4:0 and 3:1 are lowering the odds enough, that no regular bettor would want to play the game.

Usually I am more of a risk taker, and would go for the draw here, but with Blackburn’s away record of 1 victory, 3 ties and 9 losses, would be way to risky. My prediction for the game would be a home victory for Liverpool, because they need the win to keep their chances for that 4th spot. Odds of 1.36 @ Betfair. However if you are tempted by that draw, go grab the odds of 5.2 @Betfair.

At least the risk/reward ratio, seems well worth it.

Sunderland v Fulham: Both teams know each other quite well, to bring up any surprises for either side. Five visits for Fulham, 2 draws 2 losses and 1 victory. They sure have a very prestige home record this season, but 1 win 5 draws and 9 losses when visiting is sure pulling them down.

Sunderland on the other hand has 3 tied games in their last 3 visits, which is making me think about a draw games here. Home record of 5 wins 5 draw games and 2 losses, is showing that the team does well at not loosing, but usually is with the cost of just 1 point.

My prediction, a draw game, odds of 3.40 @ Betfair.
