Serie A Games on for today

Since a lot of FA Cup games are played today, and the only English Premier League game has already started and it was pretty obvious how the game between Manchester United v Hull City was going to end, I decided to go with Serie A today.

The two great games offered to us today are:

Catania v Parma 23/01/2010 17:00 GMT
Juventus v Roma 23/01/2010 19:45 GMT

Let’s start quick with the first one since it’s starting in an hour, Catania v Parma . Both teams have played a total of 6 games, 3 draws, 2 victories for Catania, and one for Parma. Parma has been struggling in the past 5 away games, getting only one win vs Fiorentina, tying against Genoa and loosing the other 3 games.

Catania, isn’t doing great as well and is in the red zone of the table. They desparately need points if they want to continue playing in Serie A next year as well. They seem to have picked up the pace with a win over Juventus away and a win over Sampdoria away as well, and a home victory over Bologna.

My prediction for this game would be an away victory for Parma, hoping to double their success over Catania this season. The odds seems quite good as well on the average of 3.40.

The more interesting game probably for the night would be Juventus v Roma. Looking over the past games of these two teams seems like Roma is struggling to get anything out of them. Their last victory as a visitor on Delle Alpi has been back in 2001. Since then the only “good” thing they have achieved is a draw in 2006 1:1.

Juventus has the chance to get on the 3rd spot if they win today. Juventus has ran into a lot of trouble in the past two months, loosing points versus teams like Catania,Cagliari,Bari and Chievo. If they want to stay in the battle for the top spots and Champions League next year, they sure need to win this one.

Roma in the other hand is in wonderful shape, although their away games seem a little disappointing with 2 draws and 1 victory, over mediocre teams. The team seems to have potential to beat Juventus, but hasn’t done it in 9 years.

I will go with the stats here, and predict a home victory for Juventus. The odds seem good enough and the stats seem convincing enough at least for me.
