Champions League Resumes Today February 16th 2010

All right! After the long pause of over 2 months, the Champions League is back. First I want to comment on last week picking stats and to go over them. A great Tuesday for me getting most of my games correct except one. Then having a horrible Wednesday with missing all games, but hey some very weird results came up.

Saturday wasn’t really good either where most FA cup games did not go the way I expected, but Sunday was a relief. I got my picks correct and congratulations on se7en who also decided to include some picks. He actually had a list for Saturday as well but I wasn’t at home and I didn’t get the chance to upload them. Anyways he went 6 for 8 on Sunday which is really great and should be really proud of himself.

With a day job that takes 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, it’s usually hard for anyone to concentrate on predictions and analyze football games, but he does it anyways and is doing a terrific job so far. A big THANK YOU.

So to sum it up, I am very satisfied with last week’s results and hope and expect similar ones this week as well starting tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow let’s look up the games that we will have the chance to watch:

Lyon v Real Madrid 16/02/2010 19:45 GMT
AC Milan v Manchester United 16/02/2010 19:45 GMT

As you can see both games should and most likely will be very, very interesting.

So let’s look into Lyon v Real Madrid try to analyze it and come up with a logical (hopefully correct) prediction for this game, as they will be hard to predict from my point of view. There’s something very ironical in both games today, but you will see late.

First looking over the statistic, seems like Lyon and Real have met 4 times total, all 4 for this tournament. Lyon beating Real both times with impressive score of 2:0 and 3:0 and then tying both games away in Madrid with results 1:1 and 2:2. As you can see both times Lyon qualified for the next round.

Now let’s look over the current shape in each team in their own leagues! 4 wins and 1 draw game for Lyon in 5 games for France League1. On the other hand Real has 5 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie in 7 games. Looks like both teams are in great shape so far this year.

With so many stars in Real Madrid I know that a lot of people would go with them as a safe bet. However I do believe in statistics and my prediction would be a home win for Lyon. Why? Lyon was the team that got out of the group with full amount of point showing no remorse or instability at all so far. Seems like a lot of people are in favor of Real since the odds in Betfair are 2.12 for Real and 4.2 for Lyon as of now (remember that odds in Betfair form from different users betting).

The 2nd game tonight is AC Milan v Manchester United. Remember that earlier I mentioned that there’s something ironic in both games? The ironic part is that in both games the teams have met 4 times, both times for Champions League, and both times the same team was able to qualify for the next round. So just like the previous game, the teams of AC Milan and Manchester United have met 4 times and Milan has been able to continue both of the times.

What’s even more ironic is that this happens in the same years 2004-2005 and 2007-2008. So Man United and Real get eliminated from Lyon and Ac Milan twice, and in the same time. How wild is that? Where where we now…? Oh right on AC Milan and Man United current shapes looking over their past performances in their own leagues.

AC Milan has 4 victories 2 draws and a loss so far this year. The loss was actually from the leader Inter Milan where Inter were with 2 red cards and Milan had the chance to get a penalty.

Manchester United has 4 wins and 2 draw games so far. As you can see both teams have a clearly almost identical stats and it’s hard to predict which is in a better shape. However again based on the stats from the previous two times I will go here with a home win for AC Milan. I tend to believe that history repeats itself, and a team that knows how to beat another certainly can find a way to do it again. Betfair.com offers the odds of 3.00 for a home win and 2.72 for an Away win, so you see my predictions for tomorrow are against the “common” thinking of the sports bettors.

If you feel like I have pointed out enough arguments to make you believe in them go ahead and go with them. If not, feel free to go in any direction as you please and hope for the best. Also if you still haven’t checked Betfair.com, you are missing a lot on the odds! Thanks for visiting, good luck betting tomorrow, hopefully we would have the chance to watch two wonderful matches!
