Another Tuesday with a mid-week round of English Premiership. Hopefully it will spice up the day with great games and entertain us in this boring and cold day. The games we have the pleasure to watch today are:
Wolverhampton v Liverpool 26/01/2010 19:45 GMT
Portsmouth v West Ham 26/01/2010 19:45 GMT
Tottenham v Fulham 26/01/2010 20:00 GMT
Bolton v Burnley 26/01/2010 20:00 GMT
First game on the list : Wolverhampton v Liverpool! Would Liverpool be able to get a 2nd consecutive win today? Winning over Tottenham last round sure boost their self-esteem, but has Liverpool taken the road to the 4th spot, or was it just a momentary thing. We are about to find out today.
Both team have played against each other only three times, where Liverpool has won as a host 2 of them and tied the 3rd one away 1:1 back in 2004. The wolves seem to have trouble hosting games against the top half of the table, loosing all games at home versus Man City, Birmingham and even Wigan.
My prediction for this game would be an away victory for Liverpool, however I would stay away from this game and will not put in on my betting slip for two reasons. First the odds are not good enough for me, and second I think we still need to see a little bit more of Liverpool to determine whether they picked up the pace, or not.
Portsmouth v West Ham is the 2nd game on the list. These two have played a good amount of games against each other. Three draw games, two wins for West Ham and four for Portsmouth. However the most recent games both ended with West Ham victories. Portsmouth seems to be doing well when playing home these last rounds and FA cup rounds. Their last spot desperately calls for wins and points.
West Ham are currently 16th, not so far away from the red zone. They need the points as well, but their away performance seems horrible. Two draw games and three losses in the past five games. Their most recent tie was against Aston Villa, so this can be counted as an achievement.
My prediction for this game would be an away victory for West Ham, trusting that they will find their way to the victory like a month ago at home, beating Portsmouth with 2:0.
Third game on the list Tottenham v Fulham. After loosing their game against Liverpool, in an unfortunate match, Tottenham will have to win this one to keep their lead and stay in the battle for the 4th spot. Long history of games between these two, and last two games finishing 0:0
Fulham seems to be a horrible guest, and Tottenham seems to have failed quite a lot at home as well. Personally I would bet on the draw here, because of the previous two games.
Last but not least is the game Bolton v Burnley. These two have played 3 times total, once in Premiership and 2 times in Championship. Two ties and one victory for Bolton, a victory long ago in 2001. Their last game was around a month ago, and ended 1:1.
Bolton seems to be doing well at home, finishing 3:3 with Man City and 2:2 with Hull, winning over West Ham with 3:1. They showed teeth playing Arsenal away, but seems like their spirit died in the 2nd half and lost from 0:2 to 4:2.
Burnley is a tough team but seems like only at home, tripping teams like Manchester United, Fulham and Arsenal. When it comes to away games, not so much.
My prediction would be a home victory for Bolton although the odds are better to go with the draw.
I will include a game from the Championship as well : Ipswich v West Bromwich 26/01/2010 19:45 GMT.
After the 2:2 versus Newcastle, West Bromwich must keep up the good work if they want to get to the 2nd spot and play in Premiership without having to play play-offs. In the beginning of the season West Bromwich won at home with 2:0 over Ipswich. However the 2 games before that away, they lost with 2:1 and 2:0.
My prediction would be an away victory, because I believe West Bromwich will want to stay close to the 2nd spot and get in Premiership next year.
Thank you for visiting, good luck on all of you sports bettors, tipsters and gambling fans and have a wonderful day.
