With just 16 days left to the World Cup start, friendlies are flying all over the place!
Why? One reason only, to pump up the team spirit so they can get motivated for the finals.
This is an old military strategy, that’s used in today’s sports. When the team gets couple of wins before the start of the tournament, their self-esteem is sky-high and they perform better.
But enough about that, today or more like tonight at 1:00 BST USA will meet the Czech Republic. The last time these two teams met in a friendly was back in 2006 where the US was again host and lost with 0:3.
However this time is going to be different. The Czech Republic has played already 3 friendlies and lost all of them. Apparently they are not in a good shape, especially after missing out to qualify for the World Cup.
On the other hand the US, has the ambition to qualify out of the group where they will have to face England, Algeria and Slovenia. Logically England will be the biggest challenge, but the other two teams shouldn’t be underestimated as well.
So what about this game, what can we bet on today? Looking the most recent games of USA , I would go for the home win here for sure. Althought friendlies can go either way, don’t forget that coaches select opponents carefully before the World Cup, making sure that their team will WIN! A win boost esteem and brings more confidence in the team.
A possible loss can be catastrophic, this is why in a way these friendlies are very important.
