The epic clash is closing up and now it’s only few hours away. The games between Germany and England have always been a show, pleasant for the fan’s eye, full of dynamic and tactics.

The game of course some of you older folks might remember is the final back in 1966 where England is able to win with 4:2 over Germany and this is how they win their first and only World Cup.

Since then, Germany takes prevail, and is present in England’s nightmares. In 1970 in quarter final, the English are leading 2:0, a lead that will make every team feel comfortable. How wrong where they when Germany was able to equalize and even win with 2:3 and eliminated England.

Another match both teams have is on the semi-final in 1990 where the game ends 1:1 and the Germans win with penalties. Disappointed back then, Gary Lineker say the famous quote “Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win”

In 1996, again in the European Cup, in a quarter final the same thing happens and the Germans win yet again.

The close we get with the years though, the more English wins we can see. Back in 2001, in a game for World Cup qualifications England wins with 5:1 against Germany, and the fans make up a song which states “5:1, 5:1 even Heskey scored”. All goals were scored by players from Liverpool.

So as you can see this battle goes way back, and it’s normal for both teams to be really hyper few hours before the game.

What to expect from this game?

Capello will probably go with his 4-4-2 system, without any changes in the team from the last game. A lot is expected by Wayne Rooney, and according to many fans this will be the game in which he will shine.

In fact due to the fact that Capello is much more expirience than Joachim Loew, I am expecting the English to control the game with tactics. Nevertheless this game will be controversial with both teams having opportunities to score.

The Betting Verdict?

As unpredictable this game is, it’s won’t be easy to say what will happen and who will win. It’s a three way game, so my suggestion is:

Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.50 (Bet365.com): Why? Because both teams will secure their defense as much as possible. No one wants to get a goal and it’s more important to keep your goal clean than to score. After all, the game can’t end a draw and the penalties will decide everything.

According to the media, Capello and his boys are training for them, so I am guess they are expecting them.
