The two favorites in group C, Italy and Serbia will go against each other, after the last three games in the past 10 years ended all draw with the score 1:1. So far, Italy has achieved two victories and a draw, but the real challenge will be today against Serbia.
The Serbians who were expected to fight for the first place, are surprisingly taking the 4th with 4 points, after losing to Estonia this Friday at home with 1:3. This was actually the debut game for the new Serbian coach Vladimir Petrović.
After failing to win, what was supposed to be an easy game at home, Petrovic has to do the impossible now, and win at least a point if not three in Italy. Italy took another direction as well, after the failure in World Cup 2010. They replaced Marcelo Lippi with Cesare Prandelli who started a bit sluggish with a friendly defeat to Ivory Coast.
Since then however, Italy has been undefeated, achieving 2 victories and a draw in 3 games. Apparently there’s a lot of criticism going on, around the new Serbian coach and whether he is the right guy to lead the team. I am speculating that this will affect the team today and might lead to another loss.
Prediction?
