After 4 years in Newcastle, Joey Barton has been told that he can leave the club as a free transfer, a surprise for all fans and Barton himself
After signing in 2007 from Manchester City, Joey Barton came to Newcastle to start his controversial career. The bad boy of the Magpies was sentenced for 77 days in prison in 2008 for assaulting a man. The team however stuck right beside the footballer and helped him pick his career up again. Now with an year left on his contract, Barton was put in the transfer list since August 1st 2011.
His manager, Willie Mackay has said that there’s a big interest from top Premier League teams, as well as top European clubs. A day after Barton’s “release” from Newcastle was announced the club fined him with “two weeks’ wages”, the reason for now is unknown.
While there’s a big chance Barton will leave for another major team (perhaps someone from Top4), manager Mackay, says that Joey really loves it in Newcastle and if there’s a chance to negotiate for his staying he will do it. The summer transfer window ends on August 31st 2011, so in 3 weeks or sooner, we will know Barton’s destiny and for which team he is going to play in season 2011/2012.
I liked his performance in season 2010-2011, and I wish him best of luck in continuing his successful career in either Newcastle or any other football club.
