Trouble lies ahead for Manchester United. After the 1:1 against Benfica, a match in which the Red Devils were considered favorites, but did not stand on the field well, comes the match against Basel. Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez are set to miss the fixture, which definitely means problems in attack. In the clash against Stoke City this weekend, a match that ended 1:1, United showed that they need Rooney in order to score. Dimitar Berbatov lead the attack, but he did not do much until substituted. He is expected to lead the Red Devil’s attack on Tuesday night as well, together with Michael Owen. Basel
Currently the leader in Group C, with 3 points Basel won their first game against FC Oţelul Galaţi, with 2:1. Without doubt the team realizes that their visit on Old Trafford will be very hard and if they manage to get out a point here will be a success. The team visited England seven times in European games, and after the first two draws against Liverpool in 2002 (1:1) and against Manchester United in 2003 (1:1), they’ve lost everything else to Fulham FC, Middlesbrough FC, Newcastle United FC and Blackburn Rovers FC. Last season Basel managed to win one ( against Roma 3:1) and lose two ( against Bayer Munich and FC Cluj) of their group stage away games.

Without starter strikers, I doubt United will be as effective as they usually are on Old Trafford. The team has lost only one in the last 32 European games on Old Trafford. Basel showed good condition, but against a weaker opponent, and does not feel comfortable playing in England.
Berbatov and Owen would most likely give their best to try to impress and score, as they find very little playing opportunities this season.
Many goals should not be expected in this game, for the above reasons, the Under 2.5 Goals bet seems very reasonable and logical. The only question is how well is Basel prepared to defend itself and strive for the draw or better here.
Owen seems to be in better overall shape at the moment, and if someone is to score, I expect that to be him. Look around for the starting teams to make sure Owen will be playing.
