Match Preview
There have been some positives and negatives for England during this qualifying campaign. They have yet to lose a match and are in a very strong position in the group, but some performances have been poor and will not have worried the top national sides in Europe before next summer’s Championships.
Draws at home to both Montenegro and Switzerland could have been very damaging to England’s qualification chances and caused great concern, if not for the away form of the side. The dropped points at home to their two group rivals were redeemed with victories in all three of their away games. Convincing wins in both Bulgaria and Switzerland were encouraging signs for the manager but there is still a lot of work to do with this England team.
Their last outing in the group was a rather unimpressive display in a 1-0 win over Wales at Wembley. The Welsh were unlucky not to come away with a point after they missed a glorious opportunity to tie the game with 13 minutes to go. Throughout the match, England failed to hold onto to possession, didn’t have any width to their game and hardly looked threatening at times.
After their own promising start to the qualification campaign, Montenegro are in disarray over the last few months. They won their opening three games and then held England to 0-0 draw at Wembley but have followed these results up with a disappointing draw at home to Bulgaria and a 2-1 loss away to Wales a few weeks ago. Manager Zlatko Kranjcar was then fired and replaced by the inexperienced former assistant coach Branko Brnovic.
While recent results have been bad, Montenegro have shown throughout this campaign that they are a decent side who are creative in midfield and have a strong passing game. Their weakness, however, is upfront and they have scored just five goals in six qualifying games so far.

Prediction
In the betting for Friday, both teams have been in great form recently but England should have too much for this Montenegro side who are struggling at the moment. The pressure to win convincingly at Wembley has been cited as one reason why England don’t always perform at home, but there is no such burden when playing away in Europe. The Three Lions have won every game they played on their travels so far in this group and they should make it a fourth win on Friday night. Also expect a few goals as England have scored eight goals in three games away from home so far.
Also, if this one does turn out to be a stalemate and ends up 0-0, Unibet will refund all losing Correct Score, Halftime/Fulltime and First Goalscorer/Last Goalscorer bets.
