It’s a wonderful day, and this wonderful event the World Cup is to its end. All we have to see now is the final game, the final show.
After watching the “small final” last night and the 5 goals scored, I can only hope we will see the same tonight.
What do you wanna know about this game? These teams have never met before in the World Cup, so we are about to see something totally new here. What’s important to know is that this is if I am not mistaken 4th Final(I was it was their third) for Netherlands, while Spain had never made it past the quarter finals before.
Both teams have never won a World Cup title yet, and one of them will today. Both teams have the top scorers, and whoever scores today will get the lead in the Top scorers list. If you are wondering who those players are, it’s Wesley Sneijder and David Villa.
What to expect from this match?
If you have seen any of the games played by Spain, it’s no brainer that the ball possession will be in their favor. The Spanish team is used to play with a lot of passes, a lot of ball control, while trying to reach the opponent’s goal. The Netherlands will probably try to accept the game in their half and use counter attacks to create opportunities. But after what happened to the Germans, can they really afford to do that?
Coach Bert van Marwijk has the hard task, to make up a strategy against “La Furia”, a strategy that will work. So far the only team that was able to defeat Spain, was the modest team of Switzerland and their coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. Perhaps both should talk for an advice.
It’s really a two way game, and either team might win it, unless you trust Octopus Paul picked Spain as a winner. Its statistic involving Germany is 11/13, or a success rate of 85%. The only games the octopus got wrong were the final in Euro 2008 Germany v Spain and the Group Stage game between Germany and Croatia.
Mani the Parakeet of Singapore, on the other hand predicted that Netherlands will win the final. The Parakeet also got all quarter-finals correct.
The Final today is the first prediction Paul makes without Germany being involved. If he gets it right I am getting him as a tipster here
.
The Betting Verdict?
Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.6 (Betfair.com): Since 1998 all finals have ended Under 2.5 Goals. Usually the final game is a game with the biggest stake in the tournament. Both team prefer to keep their goal clean, instead of foolishly trying to score and getting burned in defense. So far Spain has managed to win the elimination rounds always with 1:0 so as you see not a lot of goals there.
