Changes always seem interesting to me, but I guess a lot of people are not comfortable with them.
There was an idea given last week that the 4th, the 5th,6th and 7th can play in a play-off for the 4th spot, to see which team will be going in the Champions League rounds.
However the idea was discussed last night, and after all it wasn’t accepted. Personally I didn’t like it for several reasons.
The play-offs will not send the team that deserves the 4th spot on it. Imagine that the current 4th spot holder beats twice during the season the 5th,6th and 7th, but looses the play-offs. Clearly they would have been the better team compared to the others, but after the play-off they lost their spot? It just wont be fair. Or team 7 has been slacking off this season, hardly got the spot, but after 2 wins in a play-off they get to play in Champions League? No way that’s fair.
The whole idea, brings up another idea, why not have a play-off for the 1st spot too? How about play-off for the last spots? The season becomes obsolete, if the spots are decided with direct games at the end.
Another news from the Premier League is that Michael Owen will miss the rest of the season. This boy and his career have been chased by injuries from the very beginning and just as he started feeling comfortable in United, yet another injury.
Sir Alex Ferguson said that this is a serious hit, for the team and for Owen himself. I am sure the fans will miss him, as he scored some pretty important goals this season.
