Peru did not manage to eliminated Uruguay, while Venezuela was unlucky to lose the penalties to Paraguay, and therefore both teams were knocked out but have a game for the third place

Peru

Peru started the tournament really well, with a draw against Uruguay, one of the finalists of Copa America 2011, a victory over Mexico with 1:0 and finished the groups with a loss to Chile with 0:1. Although the team finished third, they were the best third team and faced the top team in Group A, which happened to be Colombia, instead of Argentina. After a good play, and a 0:0 in regular time, Peru managed to score not just 1 but 2 goals in the extra time. Peru advanced to the semi-final, where they met the favorite at that point for winning the tournament Uruguay. A loss with 0:2 in regular time knocked Peru out of the competition, but the team can get now the third spot.

Venezuela

Venezuela started the group stage extremely well, a draw against Brazil, a victory over Ecuador and a draw against Paraguay, sent the team on the second spot in the group. Brazil had the same amount of points but a better goal ratio. Venezuela advanced to the quarter-final stage of the tournament where they met Chile and won with 2:1 in regular time. This was the only quarter final which ended with a victory in regular time. Venezuela met Paraguay again in the semi-finals, but unluckily lost the penalties with 3:5. Now matter which place Venezuela takes, (3rd or 4th) the team will be proud of their performance, as this was their first Copa America semi-final.

Prediction

This year’s Copa America 2011, offered us the viewers a lot of surprises. I believe this match can finish either way, even the statistics between both teams shows it:

10/09/2009 World Cup Qualification, CONMEBOL Venezuela vs. Peru 3:1
07/09/2008 World Cup Qualification, CONMEBOL Peru vs. Venezuela 1:0
04/09/2005 World Cup Qualification, CONMEBOL Venezuela vs. Peru 4:1
10/07/2004 CONMEBOL Copa America, Group A Peru vs. Venezuela 3:1
06/06/2004 World Cup Qualification, CONMEBOL Peru vs. Venezuela 0:0

Each team has won twice, lost twice and has one draw game in the 5 matches since 2004. The valuable bet here would be Peru priced at 3.00 (bet365) having as equal chance of winning as Venezuela who are priced at 2.40 (bet365).

The Under 2.5 Goals bet seems nice with odds at 1.75 (bet365) given that each team has had only 1 Over 2.5 Goals game so far.

My prediction is that this match will be more like a friendly, therefore less efforts and goals, Under 2.5 Goals.
