When it comes to sports betting you have probably seen the name Betfair.com to pop up. Betfair.com is not an online bookmaker, it’s an online betting market where sports bettors like you and me, bet against each other, and this is how the odds are formed.
Because there’s no profit calculated into the odds, most likely most of the time Betfair.com‘s odds will be the highest around the internet. Now usually when a user gets on Betfair they might see something like this when then open up a game:

Now because Betfair is a market, it gives you the ability to bet FOR and AGAINST certain team or result to happen. A lot of people that have no experience are confused by this. They are also confused why there are so many odds, and unless they read the manual, or someone tells them, they just scratch off the site as “too complicated, too confusing”.
But just because a certain site gives you more betting options, it doesn’t mean you have to take them, or try to understand them. You can never read their online help, never even care how the whole system works, and still do fine. In order to do that you just need to simplify Betfair to look like your old online bookmaker.
Now do you see the options on the top, that have a check-mark ? Back&Lay and Market Depth? Yup, removing the check from Market Depth will remove the extra odds you see. What do the extra odds mean? Well you don’t really have to know but I will try to explain.
The betting market works, just like two people who bet against each other. Say I am a fan of Chelsea, and I put 200$ down that they will win and I put up the odds of 1.40. Now my friend who hates Chelsea, bets 200$ against me! This means he matches my bet and now the odds for Chelsea to win are 1.40. Now imagine you and someone else are not happy with 1.40 and go for 1.42 and put some amount of money as well. Depending on who’s on the other side betting against you and how much they are willing to put down, the odds will change.
I am sorry if I didn’t explain it well, but now you see why people can be confused by the whole system. Now to remove the Lay odds, which really mean Betting Against, just remove the check-mark from Back&Lay. Now your screen should look something like this:

Now this look so much more similar to your regular online bookmaker right? And the greatest part is you don’t have to know what’s going on, and how the odds change. All you need to know is that the you are betting on the highest odds available on the net and that’s about it.
