Well last night’s friendlies weren’t so great picking wise, but what can you do.
Friendlies before a major tournament are supposed to lift up the team spirit with a good victory, instead we same some devastated ties, and an embarrassing US loss.
I will start reviewing a game each day, until the World Cup 2010 starts. This way with 15 days left, I will get to the last game when the tournament kicks in.
First game as a tradition is the World Cup opener, where the host is playing an opponent from the group.
We have South Africa v Mexico on June 11th 2010:
As I have mentioned in my World Cup Groups Predictions, there has never been a host that didn’t qualify out of the groups. However you can still qualify without winning the first game, so going for a SA victory here might be risky. As a first game from the Finals, there might be a lot of pressure on both teams so I would stay away from any 1X2 predictions here.
This is how i think this game is going to go. Both teams will try to make a good first impression, but in the same time will be exploring each other and not very hype to score. Supposedly SA will control the game with an outstanding crowd support, while Mexico will try to defend their good reputation.
Under 2.5 goals @ 1.47 (Bet365.com) might be a safe bet here. Usually first games aren’t full of goals because both teams are trying Not to loose, instead of to win.
Another good bet here with slighter higher odds is One or Neither Team to score @ 1.66 (Bet365.com)
Both teams are expected to take it easy a look for weaknesses the first half.
Prediction: “Half Time – Draw” Odds: 2.10 Bookmaker: Bet365.com
