Starting with the first game on June 12th in group B, between South Korea and Greece.
Greece ones proved in 2006 that they are a good underdog to bet on, by winning the Euro Cup. A huge Greece fan back then made over 200,000 EUR in profit, with staking moderate amount of money after each Greece win, that they will be the winners of the tournament.
Let’s see what have brought here this time.
Greece: Last time Greece was on a World Cup was back in ’94, in almost identical group, with Argentina, Nigeria, and Bulgaria. With 0 goals scored they went home after 3 losses, 4:0 from Argentina, 4:0 from Bulgaria and 2:0 from Nigeria.
No doubt that they will try to make a better impression this year. Since 2001 when Otto Rehhagel took over, the team has literally transformed. Lead by Sotirios Kyrgiakos (Liverpool) who played more qualifying minutes than any of his members, Greece will have the hard task to make it out of the group.
South Korea: The most frequent visitors from Asia are about to make their 8th appearance on World Cup finals. The only memorable thing they have done was in 2002, when they were a host, and swept Europe’s giants like Portugal,Italy and Spain to reach the 4th place.
However I personally give credit mostly to the Dutch influence under the likes of Guus Hiddink and Dick Advocaat. In December 2007 Huh Jung-Moo was appointed as a coach and everything changed.
I have to be honest here, I think coaches play a very big role in today’s football and sorry but I doubt SK will do a lot this year under this manager.
So getting to know both teams a little better what bets can we take? Well given the fact that Greece are the 2006 Euro Champions, and in the same time South Korea do not have that great coach from before, I think it’s safe to go with a win for Greece.
Prediction: “Greece – win” Odds: 2.30 Bookmaker: Bet365.com
