Have you noticed the negativity that surrounds you now days? I mean literally, you can’t have a civil conversation with somebody, without words like recession, loss, miserable and etc. being mentioned.
It’s like people enjoy to see themselves as a victim, and talk about their problems. Then they expect something to improve, while they keep seeing the glass half-empty.
That ain’t going to happen for sure.
Not much different in the sports and the sports betting world as well. Fans, gamblers, tipsters you name it, have always one common thing to talk about: what they lost, how they lost it, and what would have happened if they didn’t.
Seriously this attitude will get you nowhere and I don’t mean just in sports betting, but in life as well.
You can’t want more success, happiness or whatever, while focusing on the lack of it. Yesterday, while I was getting myself a sports newspaper in the local bookie, I overheard couple of conversations about last night’s games in Europa League.
Sure they were quite hard to predict, as you can see from my predictions
. I got only one correct, funny enough it was the game with the highest odds. Anyways the conversation went like this, and since I do not know any of the names I will be using John and Bob:
John: “Can you believe what happened last night to Roma? OMG I had so many high odds games and they came out correct and I was just waiting on them, as a sure bet and they failed me. It’s freaking unfair, and I am so pissed. Last week, the EPL, the same thing happened… etc.”
Bob: “OMG the same thing happened to me, I was waiting on Juventus. Lame lame lames, they should have won. I was so angry I threw the remote … etc”
You get the idea about the conversation John and Bob are having. Both of them are always angry with their “unfortunate” losses, but in the same time they are still sitting with a betting slip in their hand hoping for a profit. Can you see the irony here? While you are seeing the glass half-empty, you are playing the role of the “victim”, who does everything “right”, but in the end, luck robs him from his success and profit.
Remember this: “The Glass is Always Half-Full,If You Let It”. While you see it this way, you will accept full responsibility of your betting losses, of the mistakes you might have made and you my friend will be looking for a change and an improvement. And if you are looking for an improvement, be sure that one day will reach it. And while you constantly improve, your results will improve, until the glass is FULL.
Do you see the difference between the two patterns? Bob and John have accepted the fact that they are too good for improvement. They are so good at football predictions that they have reached this level of godlike. But just tiny bits of luck are standing on the way as obstacles and are preventing them from making a profit. Now it’s easy to sit around, blame something that’s outside of them for the failure, while talking and crying about it every single day.
While they thinking “There’s nothing I can improve in me” they will keep having the same conversations, discussing the same results. Wise people say this “The more I learn the more I see I know nothing”, thus there’s always room for an improvement.
Just from the top of my head, I will give you few things that Bob and John are probably doing wrong. Betting money that they cannot afford to loose! Seriously, if you have staked $2 bucks and have lost them, would you really feel depressed and want to talk about it? Or if you are kind of rich and you have staked $200, I doubt loosing money you don’t really need will have any impact on you.
Bob and John are betting in the local bookie, where the odds are almost as twice as low from the ones on the net and particularly Betfair.com. Betting on games with lower odds will mean you would have to risk a greater amount from the same profit. In the long run this will make quite a difference.
Bob and John are betting in Leagues and Tournaments they are not familiar with. Look at me, I have tried predicting games from Italy Serie A, until I finally learned that I am not familiar with the teams, the style of play, and I stopped. Bet on teams and leagues, that you know well, and it feels like you are betting on a game that depends on you. Like you are playing for that team, and you know you will win.
See without having to think too much, I found 3 areas where Bob and John can improve. So my dear sports betting friends, take a moment to think about it, and see if you are not doing something similar here. If you aren’t, great you are looking at a glass half-full. If you are, maybe now it’s the time to turn your thinking around. Be honest with yourself as well, because lie all you want, the results will not lie to you.
