Tottenham meets Real Madrid, after a loss of 0:4 on Bernabeu and with extremely slim chances of qualifying to the semi-finals.
Tottenham won their game this weekend against Stoke City with 3:2, and seemed that the team was more focused on reaching the 4th place in Premier League than on advancing in the next stage of Champions League. Realistically speaking Real Madrid and Mourinho are just too experienced to let this game finish with 4 goals margin in favor of Tottenham. However, two years ago, in March 2009, Real Madrid did lose to an English team, with 0:4, this was against Liverpool.
The Spurs are unbeaten at home for the past two seasons in Europa League/Champions League, scoring 25 goals in eight games, and the only time they failed to net a goal was in the game against AC Milan. In the previous game Peter Crouch picked up a red card very early in the game, which means he will be suspended for this one, and Tottenham won’t be able to take advantage of high passes in the penalty area.
Real Madrid is one step close to the semi-finals and facing their worst nightmare Barcelona (if the qualify, but that almost a sure thing). While I am sure Mourinho will try to save his team for the upcoming semi-finals, he will want to make sure his side doesn’t lose on Wednesday with 0:4. I am guessing Real will go out with a defensive formation, depending entirely on counter attacks.
The team is in a now rush scoring, but to be honest, Real Madrid hasn’t scored only in 2 of last 14 Champions League away fixtures. Even a draw or a minimal loss will not matter and will let the Spanish side advance to the next stage.
In 3 out of the last 4 home fixtures in Champions League, Tottenham managed to score more than 2 goals, and the end result was Over 2.5 Goals. Since this seems the hardest game to predict from them all, I will back the Over 2.5 Goals in this game, mainly because of the fact that Tottenham needs at least 4 goals to get the job done. That would mean that the team will most likely start very offensively, giving empty spaces in defense and perhaps chances for Real to counter. Good luck betting.
