The match for the third place will be between Uruguay and Germany, despite both teams ambitions to play at the final this year.

Uruguay had hell of a tournament, being undefeated until the semi-final. Since the draw in the first game with France, they managed to beat every single team that stood on their way. Won over the host South Africa, Mexico, South Korea, Ghana.

Meanwhile the German machine, ran over Australia with 4:0, but then had a slight setback against Serbia loosing with 0:1. Since then however, they beat Ghana with 1:0, and demolished big names like England with 4:1 and Argentina with 4:0.

Our expectations for that to happen in the game with Spain, didn’t come true. The Germans came out a bit scared, took the game in their own half and logically lost the game. But I guess we all knew that before it even happened since their very own Octopus Paul had predicted Spain as the winner of the game.

Perhaps only inexperience and the young age of the team stopped them from playing on the final.

What’s expected to happen in this game?

Uruguay was quite disappointed after the loss with 2:3 against Holland. Winning the third place would partially satisfy them in a way, after being gone from the advance stages of the tournament for so long.

In the same time Germany and Miroslav Klose have a record to beat. If he scores at least a goal in this game, he will tie Rolando with 15 goals scored in the World Cup tournaments.

I expect the Germans to show their brilliant style, something they forgot about in the game with Spain. With a risk to underestimate Uruguay a bit, I wanna say that Germany will have a total control over the ball and the game in general.

The Betting Verdict?

Backing Germany @ 1.72 (Bet365.com): Germans put out quite a show, when we exclude the semi-final game. I am expecting them to play quite well here, now that the pressure is gone and they have nothing to worry about. Pretty sure Miroslav Klose would want to go down in the history as the man who has scored most goals in the World Cup. For this to happen he needs to score at least one to tie the current leader Ronaldo(Brazil) and two to get the lead. What can be a better motivation that this?
