The other quarter final, that will be played on July 2nd and will face the team from the one earlier. The task of these two teams will be almost as mission impossible. Given that one of them will qualify, they would have to face Netherlands or Brazil on the semi-final.
Uruguay was able to top a group that was considered hard to get out of . This is quite a success for them reaching the quarter final. Beating South Africa with 3:0 and Mexico with 1:0 put them in the top of the group. In the Rounds of 16 they faced South Korea, and after scoring first they let the Koreans to equalize. However the Latin team was able to keep the pressure and the logical 2nd goal came on time.
Ghana on the other hand is the surprise of the quarter finals. Being one of the few African teams to ever qualify in this stage of the World Cup is really quite an achievement. Being also the youngest team on this World Cup is also challenging because most players lack of expirience.
Ghana was able to beat Serbia with 1:0, tied with Australia, and lost to Germany in a dramatic game, but this was enough for them to advance to the Rounds of 16 where they faced USA.
Ghana played outstanding against USA, and finished 1:1 in the regular game time. The logical happened in the 94th minuted when Asamoah GYAN scored and lead Ghana ahead. After the 120th minute the score remained unchanged and Ghana advanced in the Quarter Finals.
What’s expected to happen?
Ghana has already showed that has no fear no matte how known or how good their opponent is. I think they will surprise Uruguay here with a very offensive style which might be a double edged sword since it will leave holes in defense. Uruguay as the more experienced team who has won two World Cups will probably control the game for the bigger portion.
A lot will be expected again from Diego Forlan, now when the semi-finals seem so close.
The Betting Verdict?
Uruguay – win @ 2.16 (Betfair.com): Given that Ghana is the youngest team in this World Cup and the pressure is rising, the farther they advance, might be crucial here. Uruguay certainly know the feeling of winning two World Cup Finals, so they should be more comfortable. Diego Forlan has also said even before the World Cup started that he will try to make his people happy this year.
