Champions League Round

Chelsea travel to Spain on Wednesday night to take on Valencia in the Champions League. It is manager Andres Villas-Boas’ first European away fixture in charge of the club after they won their opening tie of the campaign 2-0 against Bayer Leverkusen.

The betting is tight for the game but Chelsea are favourites 7/5 with Unibet while a Valencia win is 2/1 and a draw offered at 11/5.

After their defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League a week ago, Chelsea got their title challenge back on track with a 4-1 win over Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Fernando Torres got the Blues off the mark with a goal in the 19th minute but was then sent off 10 minutes later with a straight red card after a rash challenge. Being down to 10 men made it a bit more difficult for Chelsea but they got the victory comfortably in the end. They are just three points off the top of the table and Villas-Boas will be happy with how his team is taking shape and performing.

In their opening Champions League fixture, Chelsea got all three points with a win at home to Bayer Leverkusen. The German side put in a good performance at Stamford Bridge and held out until the Blues unlocked their defence in the second half thanks to goals from David Luiz and Mata. Chelsea will need another solid display such as this if they are to get anything from their game in Spain.

Valencia started their season in great form and raced to the top of La Liga but have since dropped down the table. They put in a good performance to earn a 2-2 draw with Barcelona a week ago but are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Sevilla at the weekend. They are now currently 7th in the league but just two points off the top spot. The club have sold off most of their best players in the last few seasons but they are still a competitive side. Striker Soldado has already scored five goals in five games this season.

In their opening Champions League fixture, Valencia played out a 0-0 draw with Belgium side Genk. Manager Unai Emery will be disappointed his side did not secure all three points as Valencia dominated possession and Genk did not even register a shot on target. He will need his side to be more clinical if they wish to take anything from the Chelsea game.

In the betting for Wednesday night, it is difficult to pick a clear winner and a draw at 11/5 is an attractive price. This Chelsea team are still just improving and Villas-Boas is tinkering with his team selections to try find his best starting-11. Valencia are a very decent outfit as they showed with their recent draw with Barca and they should cause Chelsea some problems. Valencia have also conceded just two goals in their last five games so it should a tight contest on Wednesday.

Tip #1: Back a draw at 11/5 with Unibet
