A friendly game between Venezuela, one of the participants in Copa America 2011, that’s starting in less than a month and Spain, the current world champion. While neither team needs anything out of this game, Venezuela can get a good self-esteem boost, with a victory over the champion.
Venezuela
Venezuela has less than a month to get in optimal shape for Copa America 2011, where they will be in the same group with Brazil, Paraguay and Ecuador. The team uses as preparation a lot of friendly fixtures, and has played a total of 16 friendly matches since February 2010. Out of those sixteen, only six have been at home, and only two have been victories. A game against North Korea, on March 6th 2010, won with 2:1, and a match against Ecuador on September 8th 2010, won with 1:0. In 2011, Venezuela played a total of 5 friendlies, winning 2, losing 1, and drawing 2. Victories over, Jamaica and Guatemala with 0:2, a loss to Argentina with 1:4, and two draws against Costa Rica and Mexico, another 2 participants in Copa America.
Spain
Spain has been pretty busy playing competitions, and has much less friendly games. After winning WC2010, the Spanish team actually recorded some devastating friendly losses, 1:4 to Argentina in September, 2010 and 0:4 to Portugal in November 2010. Since then however, the team has 3 consecutive victories over Colombia, Lithuania and the most recent one played 2 days ago, against United States, a victory with 4:0. In Euro 2012 Qualification Group I, Spain takes top spot with 15 points out of 5 games, which means that the team also won all qualifier games.
Prediction
The clear favorite in this match is of course the world champion Spain. A solid victory just a few days ago over United States with 4:0, and awaiting their next match against Venezuela. The South American team on the other hand, has an unique performance to really boost their ego, with a victory here. It will be great achievement before their first match in Copa America against Brazil.
However, having watch the fixture USA v Spain, I can guarantee you that the Spanish team is in great shape, and would do everything possible to win this match. The value bet here would be the draw @ 4.75 from bet365, as Venezuela drew their most recent home game, and a total of 2 out of the last 5 home matches.
My prediction for this match would be, that Spain will win, with at least 2 goals difference, hence the bet is Spain -1.5.
